Let the curtain rise for the 6th Dillenburg Puppet Theater Days
Renowned theater stages once again guests in the Orange City
For the sixth consecutive time, the Orange City Dillenburg welcomes: Let the curtain rise for the "6th Dillenburg Puppet Theater Days"! From March 20 to 23, 2025, the popular event series will once again take place in Dillenburg. Tickets for a total of four family performances will be available at the Tourist Information starting March 3, 2025.
By contracting renowned and established puppet theaters from all over Germany, the Orange City Dillenburg as the organizer is focusing on a high-quality program for families, children, teenagers, and adults. The well-known theaters stand for a high level of performance quality that meets the artistic demands of modern, experience-oriented puppetry. In addition to already existing events, this series, launched in 2018, is another highlight in Dillenburg's cultural program and is unique in this form in the Lahn-Dill district. The lovingly staged performances for young and old are always received with great enthusiasm.
The long history of puppetry dates back to ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. In almost every region of the world, talking and acting wooden figures are known. This year, four inspiring pieces invite you into this diverse world of wonderful puppet theater: "Snow White and Rose Red," "The Ugly Duckling," "The Wind in the Willows," and "The Brave Little Tailor." Although many people remember puppets and puppet theater from their childhood, the art of puppetry has changed significantly over the years. In professional productions, trained puppeteers bring their hand-carved figures to life with artistic texts and nimble hands, creating intricate performances of great intensity. For many enthusiasts, they are even more lively than the animated characters in 3D Hollywood productions. The productions stand out in particular because every little detail receives the utmost attention and care in execution, whether it is the expressive, finely carved figures, costumes, stage design, or lighting and sound technology.
The event series of the 6th Dillenburg Puppet Theater Days will kick off on Thursday, March 20, with a performance by the Hermannshoftheater from Lower Saxony, presenting the prominent piece "Snow White and Rose Red," freely based on the Brothers Grimm. The fairy tale revolves around helping, kindness, and protecting the treasures of our Earth.
On Friday, March 21, the enchanting performance "The Ugly Duckling," based on Hans Christian Andersen, will continue. The production by Hermannshoftheater deals with themes of being different and joyful development. But see for yourself!
On Saturday afternoon, March 22, the audience can look forward to the performance "The Wind in the Willows," based on the classic English children's book by Kenneth Grahame. A captivating story of connection with nature, wanderlust, individuality, and deep friendship will be played and wonderfully staged. Christiane Weidringer from the puppetry theater of the same name in Erfurt, Thuringia, is also a first-time guest in the Orange City.
The closing performance of this year's series of magical family performances will be "The Brave Little Tailor" on Sunday, March 23. The play, very freely interpreted based on the Brothers Grimm, will be performed by Manfred Künster from the puppetry theater of the same name from Mayen in Rhineland-Palatinate. The story centers around bravery, cunning, show-offs, frightened rabbits, and sly characters.
The Free Evangelical Church (FeG) Dillenburg will also offer its worship service attendees a theater performance on Sunday, March 16, at the FeG community center. Be enchanted by the world of puppets with dorondolon, the puppet team from Schwelm, presenting "The Sly One." The audience will immerse themselves in exciting stories from the Bible with all their senses. The themes include flight, deception, failure, but also turning points, reconciliation, and joyful celebrations. The performance within the worship service is free of charge.
The family performances, suitable for children aged 4 and older, will take place on Thursday and Friday at 4:00 PM in the atrium of the Wilhelm von Oranien School on Jahnstraße in Dillenburg. The additional performances will begin on Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 PM.
