"Alte Haus" in Holzhausen
After the death of the owners, the half-timbered house built around 1750 was actually to be demolished. However, at the request of some fellow citizens with a close affinity to their homeland, the municipality purchased the building at that time and made it available to the Holzhausen Local History Society. The existing rooms - "Kich und Ern oans" and the "goud Stubb" on the ground floor as well as "Kimmerche" and "Schloafzimmer" on the upper floor - were exactly the housing available to about 80 % of the population at the turn of the century. Furnishings were painstakingly gathered from all over the village. The house was renovated and furnished from the ground up. With the help of old people's traditions, it was brought up to the original state at the turn of the century and opened to the public in September 1967. The house is not a museum in the true sense of the word. It is a living testimony to the living culture of our ancestors. Nothing is behind glass - everything can be touched and could even be used. One could actually move in and live there immediately - but then one would have to be content with the "comfort" of our great-great-grandparents. The sadly deceased headmaster, Heinrich Jung, rendered great services to the preservation and furnishing of the "Old House". The house can of course be visited by appointment. School classes in particular make good use of this offer.
