Krunkel

Devon-Box

Brief description

Stories about prehistoric times told in an exciting way!

Detailed description

More than 400 million years ago, there was a sea in the Westerwald where Krunkel, Epgert and Obersteinebach are today. Many different plants and animals lived there at that time. Some of them were the ancestors of creatures that still exist today. Geologists call this age of the earth the Devonian period. In quarries, during road construction and when building the ICE railway line, fossilised imprints from this long-gone world have been found time and again. These fossils give us an insight into what the earth looked like back then. These fossils found in the Westerwald are exhibited in the Devon Box. The small exhibition shows the animals in their former habitat. What makes it special, however, are the audio guides. If you scan the QR codes on the Devon Box with your own smartphone, the fossils begin to speak and tell us about their life in the Devonian Sea.
