Hachenburg - permanent hiking trail (7 km)

Description

From the Hachenburger Westerwald tourist information office, we cross the magnificent Old Market with its half-timbered houses and the fountain with the Golden Lion. We pass the Westerwald Landscape Museum and turn left into Dehlinger Weg. Soon we reach the Jewish cemetery, first mentioned in 1587, which is a listed building. We continue to enjoy our hike through the forest to the Lange Schneise, where we turn towards Gehlert. At the end of the forest we can already take a look at the imposing castle in Hachenburg and continue walking towards the medieval town. When we arrive back in Hachenburg, we are happy about the cozy atmosphere in the old market and in the pedestrian zone, which with their restaurants and cafés invite you to stop for a break.

Popular, easy hike for the short excursion from Hachenburg. If you want to acquire the German sports badge, you can get start cards at the Tourist Information Office in Hachenburger Westerwald.

Approach

From Bad Marienberg (east): We leave Bad Marienberg via the L294 and turn left at the end of the street onto the B414. We follow this road through Kirburg and past Norken. After about nine kilometers we leave the B414 to the left onto the L281, which we follow to Hachenburg.

From Altenkirchen (west): We drive over the B414 to the roundabout in front of Hachenburg, which we take at the first exit in the direction of Hachenburg onto the B413 leave. At the first possible turn to the left (behind the railroad crossing) we leave the street and drive onto the L288. We follow this road to Hachenburg.

From Höchstenbach (southwest): We follow the B413 until we turn right into Koblenzer Straße. We follow this road to Hachenburg.

From Betzdorf (north): We follow the L288 out of Betzdorf. At the turning towards Marienstatt, we turn right onto the K21. Immediately afterwards we turn left to stay on the K21. We follow the road until we come to a junction where we turn left onto the B414 in the direction of Hachenburg. At the roundabout, we take the first exit in the direction of Hachenburg, where we join the B413. We leave this street after the railroad crossing to the left onto the L288, which we follow until we are in Hachenburg.

Public transport

With the Hessische Landesbahn to Hachenburg station, from there walk approx. 600 m to the starting point, Tourist Information Hachenburger Westerwald, Perlengasse 2.

From Altenkirchen take the 289 bus in the direction of Helmeroth to the school / sports center. There, change to bus line 408 in the direction of Hachenburg. From the bus stop at the market it is about 5 minutes' walk to the tourist information office in Hachenbugrer Westerwald.

From Bad Marienberg with the 960 bus in the direction of Hachenburg. From the bus stop at the market it is a 5-minute walk to the tourist information office in Hachenbugrer Westerwald.

Directions

From the Hachenburger Westerwald tourist information office, we first go left and then right over the old market through Obergasse to the inn "Zur Sonne". There we cross the L281 road to Burggarten and continue right to the Westerwald Landscape Museum. Here we cross the L281 (pedestrian crossing) again and follow Dehlinger Weg to the left. After about 70 meters we change to the left (Dehlinger Weg) and are on the 7 km route. There are still about 50 m until we arrive at the Jewish cemetery. After the Jewish cemetery we follow the signs to the Lange Schneise, where we turn right in the direction of Gehlert. We cross the L288 after approx. 600 m at the end of the forest, turn right towards Hachenburg. On the asphalt road we go to the left and meet again after about 600 m with the 12 km route. From here you can see Hachenburg Castle. We continue straight ahead over the Birkenweg past the DRK hospital on the right in the direction of the swimming pool and boat pond to the "Zur Sonne" inn. Here we turn left to the starting point of the Alter Markt and Tourist Information Hachenburger Westerwald.

Safety instructions

• Wear sturdy shoes and suitable clothing that is suitable for the weather and protects you from the cold and wet or from the heat and sun.
• Take plenty of fluids with you. There are not many places to stop for refreshments.
• Please put on suitable hiking shoes on the way, which will give you sufficient grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
• If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the path are not accessible to you then you should bypass this. Especially in adverse weather conditions, near-natural paths can lead to muddy and slippery passages.
• Particularly in autumn, it is also important to ensure that the leaves lying on the ground can cover bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You should expect this kind of obstacle to the path when you go on a hike.
• Although the path is consistently very well marked, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.

You should pack food (food and drink) for your hike, as gastronomy is only available in Hachenburg.
