Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
We choose the Hachenburger Erlebnisbrauerei as a thematically appropriate starting point and hike towards the Hachenburg forest. Passing the Rothbach Grotto, we follow the Rothbach to the brewery's brewing water source area, and from there continue towards Gehlert. Information boards inform us about the designated water protection area, where numerous springs and deep wells are located around Gehlert. We continue hiking to the Gräbersberg (513 m) and enjoy the wonderful panoramic view from the highest elevation in the Hachenburg Westerwald. The Alpenrod Hut offers us a chance to rest, and freshly strengthened we follow the Water Experience Trail further to the Tongruben pond in Alpenrod. The turquoise shimmering pond lies idyllically amid a forest landscape surrounded by birch trees. After enjoying this natural beauty, we make our way back to Hachenburg along the Alte Poststraße.
From Bad Marienberg (East): We leave Bad Marienberg via the L294. At the end of the road, we turn left onto the B414. We follow this road for about nine kilometers until we turn left onto the L281 towards Hachenburg. We follow this road until we arrive in Hachenburg.
From Altenkirchen (West): We drive along the B414 to the roundabout in front of Hachenburg. We leave it at the first exit towards Hachenburg on the B413. Behind the railway crossing, we turn left onto the L288 to get to Hachenburg. We follow the L288 until we arrive in Hachenburg.
From Betzdorf (North): We follow the L288 for about 21 kilometers. Then we turn right onto the K21 towards Marienstatt. To stay on the K21, we turn left immediately. We follow this road until we reach the intersection where we turn left towards Hachenburg (B414). At the roundabout, we take the first exit towards Hachenburg (B413). After the railway crossing, we turn left onto the L288 and follow this road to Hachenburg.
From Steinebach an der Wied (South): We drive on the L292 until we arrive in Hachenburg.

The Water Experience Trail continues its route and heads to the Gräbersberg (513m) as an intermediate destination at its southernmost point. From the Gräbersberg, the path leads further to the Tongruben pond in Alpenrod. Along the Alte Poststraße, it passes the wind turbine near Gehlert and returns to Hachenburg.
Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
Bring enough fluids with you. There are not always places to stop and refresh.
Please wear appropriate hiking boots on the path that provide sufficient support even on slippery, steep, rocky, and uneven paths.
If you think certain sections of the path are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Particularly in adverse weather, natural paths can be muddy and slippery.
Especially in autumn, note that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You must expect such path impairments when hiking.
Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons, you should always carry a suitable hiking map with you.
You should definitely plan some time for a visit to the Hachenburger Erlebnisbrauerei.
