On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the town of Dillenburg and the Dillenburg Museum Association e.V. will celebrate "Koningsdag" (King's Day) together with citizens in the area of the castle park with a variety of free activities. Visitors will enjoy a flea market, a small bouncy castle area, a craft corner, face painting, a selfie station, food and drinks, as well as a musical program, offering a diverse family program.
On April 27, the Dutch celebrate the birthday of their head of state, King Willem-Alexander, with gigantic street festivals and flea markets. To express our connection to the Netherlands, we simply join in the celebration!
Warm invitation to participate in the "Vrijmarkt" (flea market) at Villa Grün
King's Day will begin on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM with a flea market in the park of Villa Grün. Everyone - whether individuals, associations, or businesspeople - is cordially invited to operate a flea market stall on-site for free and without prior registration. Tables, blankets, or similar items to present one's offerings must be brought along. The Dillenburg City Library will also have a book stall on-site. Throughout the evening hours, visitors at King's Day will be able to browse, bargain, snag deals, and discover various treasures.
Also admire the new special exhibition at the Museum Villa Grün
The museum facilities on the castle hill will also open their doors and offer interested visitors a discounted admission for visiting Villa Grün and the Wilhelm Tower. On this day, the special exhibition "What a Coincidence," a traveling exhibition from the Mathematikum Gießen about mathematical chance, computability, and mathematical chaos, will be on display at Villa Grün. The discounted admission price of 2 euros for adults and 1 euro for children (up to 16 years old) allows access to both aforementioned museums. Visitors will receive a small surprise while supplies last.
The Dillenburg folk trio "Ayrgathán" will be musically present from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will entertain guests as a walking act.
Another attraction is the selfie station, based on the motto "Holland as a guest in Dillenburg." Take a photo as a lasting memory together with you and the Dutch royal couple.
At around 4:00 PM, guests of King's Day are invited to a photo flash mob. For this purpose, free orange giveaways in the form of hats, necklaces, and sunglasses will be distributed. The resulting "proof photo" from this action will demonstrate that the town of Dillenburg can also celebrate King's Day just as grandly as our Dutch neighbors. Those who wish may come dressed in colorful orange outfits.
There will also be excellent provisions for culinary needs. Enjoy sweet and savory treats, as well as refreshing cold drinks and cocktails on-site. Additionally, members of the Castle Hill Association Dillenburg e.V. will provide coffee and cake. The Wild Park Dillenburg-Donsbach Support Association e.V. will be present with an action booth. The staff from the administration will also offer a craft corner for the little guests: here, children can joyfully create crowns and buttons. A small bouncy castle area, large games, and free face painting complete the successful supporting program on the castle hill. Members of the project group "Life in the 18th Century" from the Dillenburg Museum Association e.V. will also accompany King's Day with salute shots at every full hour between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
