When the days soon get shorter and darker, a few more lamps light up in the Altenkirchen District Mining Museum in Herdorf-Sassenroth. The magical world of minerals shines in their light and delights visitors with its wealth of shapes and colours.
On Sunday, 17 November 2024 from 10 am to 4 pm, well-known dealers and collectors will present minerals, fossils and jewellery at their stands throughout the exhibition area and offer them for sale. You are sure to find a little something or two for Christmas.
Mineral identification will also be offered. So if you bring your own treasures, you can have them examined free of charge by qualified experts in the mining museum. Over a cup of coffee, you are sure to be able to exchange experiences between amateurs and experts.
Of course, there will be special activities for children and prizes can be won in a quiz. Young researchers can also bring their own stones and examine them under 3D microscopes and large illuminated magnifying glasses.
A small special exhibition of beautiful mineral specimens will be on display on the upper floor of the mining museum. Retired museum director Achim Heinz is enthusiastic: ‘In the rich history of mining in the Siegerland region, the world of minerals is the icing on the cake. People are always amazed at the magical specimens that have been found here underground.’
