Detailed description

The large and the small Wolfstein are two basalt formations in the middle of the forest of the Wildpark on the Marienberger Höhe. They were formed about 25 million years ago by a volcanic eruption. A legend tells that the devil wanted to build a stairway to heaven with stones, but they fell apart. Today, the Wolfsteine are designated as a natural monument and a popular excursion destination.
