From 1845 to 1848 Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen was the mayor of Weyerbusch. In 1847 he founded the "Brodverein" and laid the foundation for an idea that went around the world - the cooperative idea. He taught people that successful help in the long term can be effective only through collective self-help: "One for all, all for one."
