Detailed description

The ruins of Neuerburg from 1170 are a kind of prototype of a Staufer castle built by Ludwig II of Thuringia. Today, it is privately owned and not open to visitors. There are many tales and legends surrounding Neuerburg and the Fockenbachtal, involving a monastery, a glassworks, the devil, and a legendary treasure. The life, love, and death on and around Neuerburg are also described in these narratives.

These legends can be read in the book "In the Land of Neuerburg" by Dr. Albert Hardt. It is available in the Tourist Information office in Waldbreitbach.
