The Dillenburger Museumsverein e.V. invites you to the conclusion of this year's museum season on Tuesday, 1 November (All Saints' Day) on the historic Schlossberg.
In the Wilhelm Tower, the history of the House of Orange-Nassau, and thus of the Dutch royal house, is presented in detail on four levels. On site, 114 steps have to be climbed. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with a magnificent view over Dillenburg from the balcony.
In the Villa Grün Museum of Economic History, guests find access to the past and present of the local economy on three levels. The history of mining in the former Dill district is presented "underground" in the basement. The Villa Grün ends this year's museum season with the photo exhibition "Industrial Culture Central Hesse" by Jan Bosch. The exhibition shows both historical architecture and industrial landscapes, as well as living industrial culture in the form of portrait shots.
Something completely unusual awaits visitors on a guided tour of the casemates. During a one-hour guided tour, guests will learn a lot of interesting facts about the underground defence fortifications, which - after their namesakes in Luxembourg City - are considered the second largest in Europe. In the casemates, at eight degrees Celsius, appropriate clothing is required, and the bumpy terrain calls for sturdy footwear.
In addition to a visit to the museum and the casemates, the Schlossberg grounds also invite visitors to take an informative walk. Twelve text panels have been set up at nine prominent locations, providing information on the history of the castle and its defences and revealing the mightiness of the former castle.
The project group "Life in the 18th Century" of the Dillenburg Museum Society will welcome visitors in historical uniform with gun salutes: the cannons will be fired on the hour from 1 to 5 pm.
The Schlossbergverein Dillenburg e.V. will also be present and will actively support the museum association. The ladies and gentlemen, also dressed in historical costumes, will treat the guests to local specialities and serve hearty sandwiches. Sweet surprises are also on offer for the younger guests. Experience has shown that a cup of coffee is always very popular with guests - especially after a tour of the casemates.
The museum facilities are open from 10:00 to 17:00. Guided tours of the casemates start every hour in front of the Wilhelm Tower. Registration is not required, so nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous visit to the castle grounds at the end of the season.
The entrance fee for both museums is €4 for adults and €2 for children. The Schlossberg ticket costs €7 for adults and €3.50 for children. The Schlossberg ticket entitles the holder to visit both museums and to take part in a guided tour of the casemates.
