To the Tour PlanerFrom Ingelbach station, the route first takes you to the "Deutsches Eck of the Westerwald" – a charming spot where the Kleine and Große Nister rivers converge. From the Spitze Ley viewpoint, you can gaze out over the stunning landscape of the Kroppach Switzerland region. After these relaxing moments, the hike becomes more challenging with the "Weltende" nature trail, which features sections reminiscent of alpine paths. Following a steep ascent, you’ll be rewarded with the Sonnenberg viewpoint. The WesterwaldSteig then continues along the Sonnenweg, leading you all the way to Marienthal, home to the monastery of the same name.
The Hessische Landesbahn operates a direct connection between the two stations once daily on weekdays (departure around 17:10, journey time approximately 19 minutes). On weekdays, the Hessische Landesbahn also runs services with a transfer in Obererbach at the following times (journey time around 40 minutes):

IMPORTANT: From 1st May to 1st September 2024, there will be train cancellations and rail replacement services (RB 90) between Altenkirchen and Westerburg on weekends. The cancelled trains will be replaced by buses. The replacement bus stops are not located near all stations, so please follow the signage at the platforms and check the passenger information provided by Hessische Landesbahn.
Make use of the parking facilities at the stations!
The access path from Ingelbach station to the main trail near Heuzert is approximately 3.5 km long. From the Kreuzweg in Marienthal, a 500-metre access path leads you to Marienthal station (a request stop!).
The access paths are marked with a green "W" on a yellow background, and the signposts feature a yellow arrowhead.
Park your car at the endpoint and first take the train to the starting point of your tour. This way, you can enjoy a relaxed hike back without worrying about time constraints.
