Directions

From the parking lot at the Wiedhalle in Roßbach, follow the WesterwaldSteig trail on the Wied-Damm. Cross the bridge and turn onto the Wiedweg in the curve above the Wiedschleife campsite (1). This romantic section of the trail always takes you close to the river to the Hotel Wiedfriede (3) in Arnsau. A beautiful beer garden awaits you here. Cross the Wied and continue to follow the Wiedweg uphill until you turn right back onto the WesterwaldSteig at the signpost WAB009 and you come to the paraglider jump-off point (4). Here you have a wonderful view over the meadows and forests of the Westerwald. The WesterwaldSteig now leads you into the lovely Masbachtal, a side valley of the Wied. You cross the Masbach and hike to the Roßbacher Häubchen (5), an eroded volcanic cone with a wonderful panoramic view of the Wiedtal, interesting basalt walls and information on basalt mining. The detour up to the summit is particularly worthwhile - the last hill on the back ascent is signposted separately. After circling the basalt cone, follow the WesterwaldSteig down to the St. Michaelskapelle. Here you turn right onto Wiedtalstraße, then left and before the bridge left again to the parking lot. In Roßbach you have the opportunity to visit other restaurants.
