Description

First we hike a bit along the Wiedweg in the direction of Dreifelden. Soon we meet the WesterwaldSteig and continue along the largest pond in the lake district, the Dreifelder Weiher. At leisure we watch the hustle and bustle of all kinds of waterfowl on the lake. As soon as we have left the Dreifelder Weiher behind us, we reach the Steinen-Dreifelden forest playground, which our little guests enjoy very much. After a short break, we continue on our way and soon arrive at the Postweiher, which attracts in summer with its varied activities such as swimming and pedal boating. We pass Freilingen and hike exhilarated through meadows and fields to the Wölferlinger Weiher nature reserve. Now it goes up to the 463 m high Schwengersberg, where we enjoy the magnificent view. From Rothenbach, the 7-pond hiking trail takes us back to Dreifelden through an impressive backdrop of indoor forests.

Directions

From the hikers' car park at the entrance to Dreifelden, we start our circular tour via the Wiedweg in the direction of Dreifelden. After only a few metres, we reach the signpost HAC030 and thus also the WesterwaldSteig hiking trail. From here, the WesterwaldSteig will show us the way. We follow the green W on a white background, past the Dreifelder Weiher pond and 2 km further to the Postweiher pond. In between, we cross a forest playground.

We pass the outskirts of Freilingen and continue along the WesterwaldSteig trail across the plateaus with meadows and fields to the Wölferlinger Weiher nature reserve and then onto the Schwengersberg.

After about 1 km in the direction of Rothenbach, it's time to say goodbye to the WesterwaldSteig. Because then we cross the main hiking trail II (white II on black background), which leads us back to Dreifelden. Parallel to this, the 7 Weiher trail (blue 7 on a white background) also runs along this section of the trail. Along the edges of the forest and through beautiful indoor forests, but also on wider farm tracks to finish, we walk quickly towards Dreifelden, where we meet up with the WesterwaldSteig again. Passing the oldest stone church in the Westerwald, we come to the Dreifelder Weiher (pond) again, along whose banks we stroll to the end to the signpost HAC030. From there, we walk the few metres along the Wiedweg to the hikers' car park.

Safety instructions

Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun. Take enough liquid with you. Refreshments are not available everywhere. Please put on suitable hiking shoes on the way, which will give you sufficient grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths. If you think that certain sections of the path are not accessible to you , then you should bypass them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can be muddy and slippery. In autumn in particular, it is important to note that the leaves lying on the ground can cover bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You have to reckon with path impairments of this kind when you go on a hike. Although the path is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.

Equipment

  • Sturdy shoes
  • Take sufficient food with you as there are only a few places to stop for a break on the way.

Tips

During our hike we should plan enough time to enjoy the beautiful landscapes.
