Detailed description

St. Elisabeth is not the first place of worship in Birken-Honigsessen, but it is the most famous. Year after year, the church, built in 1930, attracts numerous tourists, church lovers and architecture students to the Rhineland-Palatinate town. The chapel of St. Elisabeth, which was donated by Baroness Anna Elisabeth zu Hatzfeld in 1723, was included in the construction.

The church, which is now a listed building, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of the church builder Dominikus Böhm (Jettingen 1880 - 1955 Cologne), and according to the building historian Holger Brülls, it is "the first tent-roofed church in Germany". In Birken-Honigsessen, the landscape, architecture and furnishings of the church combine to create a total work of art that is well worth seeing.
